Training

We know that part of the attraction of consulting is the steep learning curve that allows you to stretch your talent. You don’t want to stand still – you want to advance your knowledge and build on your existing skills. A.T. Kearney offers many resources and opportunities to do this, all provided in the spirit of our hands-on, pragmatic approach.

We firmly believe that learning is embedded in our consulting value proposition. As such our motto to paraphrase Gandhi is: “Learn as if you were to live forever".

We place an emphasis on specific projects or practices likely to offer particularly valuable learning experiences, and then build on these by offering ‘classroom-type’, tailored training programs that provide client-focused learning experiences such as logical report-writing, public speaking skills, interviewing techniques, and more.

Your mentor will help you identify ways in which you can match training to your specific needs at all stages of your career at A.T. Kearney, ensuring that you are able to stretch your abilities in the best possible way.

As you progress your career in A.T. Kearney, you will develop an expertise in specific industries, services or particular skills. This will give you an opportunity to be involved in either designing training programmes yourself or becoming a trainer on the most popular A.T. Kearney courses. This hands-on experience will be invaluable to consultants attending the training as they will benefit from insights and lessons learned gained on client assignments.

An overview of the main training events available to London consultants is provided in the section below.

New Consultant Orientation (NCO)
This course is given to Business Analysts, Senior Business Analysts and Associates during their first year in the firm. Held in one of our European offices, the course focuses on helping new consultants improve their understanding of the consulting process. The training includes planning, analysis, hypothesis generation, problem-solving, and communication, all of which are provided with an eye on A.T. Kearney’s mission, values and strategy. This popular training event also allows consultants to start building up an international network of relationships within the firm as consultants from various offices attend this training.

Manager Success Essentials (MSE)
As the title indicates, this course orients new managers to their role in the firm, and updates them on the consulting, project management, and other firm processes affecting managers. Consultants will develop the skills necessary for success as a new manager, and the training will provide them with an opportunity to expand their network within the firm through interaction with other new managers and senior consultants.

Principal Success Essentials (PSE)
This course orients new principals to their role, and updates them on the processes that affect principals within the firm. Attendees will develop the skills necessary for success as a new Principal, and the training will provide them with the opportunity to networking with peers and other senior consultants.

New Partner Orientation (NPO)
This course orients new Partners to their role within the firm, giving them an overview of the firm’s aims, processes and structure, allowing them to develop an understanding of Partner responsibilities, and providing them with the opportunity to network with peers and the senior leadership of the firm.

KRISP
Kearney’s Rational and Incisive Speaker Program (KRISP) develops individual presentation skills for use in formal presentation situations. The course examines the consultant’s personal speaking style to identify and practice improvements within the context of A.T. Kearney’s formal method of presenting. Course participants will also identify ways to adapt formal KRISP styles to fit with their own preferences in presenting, and will practice effective ways of handling questions and speaking off-the-cuff.

KOPS
Kearney Operating Skills (KOPS) – our very popular course in the forest of Ardennes in Belgium – helps consultants gain personal mastery of the effective use of influencing skills in transformation situations. It focuses on how to deal with emotions – both your own and those of the people you are trying to influence, and provides training in how to communicate effectively in difficult situations.

The course starts with a discussion of relationships, and how they impact our ability to deliver on engagements, especially change projects. KOPS attendees then examine their approach to influencing others, their relationships with clients, their ability to run effective meetings, and how best to take stakeholder positions into account.
